주립정신 요양원의 최고 경영자인 제랄드 스완 박사(Dr. Gerald Swan: 제레미 슬레이트 분)는 두뇌가 뛰어난 동료 콜린 램지 박사(Dr. Colin Ramzi: 대니 고헤나우어 분)가 수없이 잔인한 실험과 죽음의 제례용으로 뇌절제 수술 환자를 그 실험 대상으로 쓰고 있다고 의심한다. 그는 램지의 기괴한 행동을 더이상 은폐할 수 없다고 판단하자 몰래 램지를 따라 연구원 아래에 있는 지하실 방으로 쫓는데.
