일본의 근대작가 다자이 오사무의 탄생 100주년을 맞아 그의 자전적 소설인 <인간실격>을 영화화 하였다.전쟁에서 일본이 패한 후 황폐해진 일본에서 정신적으로 불안정한 주인공 요조가 술과 마약, 매춘에 빠져 망가지게 되고 결국은 자살을 선택하게 된다.
