한 마을의 유지 임씨는 장의사인 구숙과 함께 선친을 이장하기 위해 묘를 파내던 도중, 지난 20년 전 헐값에 자리를 넘겨준 것에 앙심을 품은 풍수지리사가 묘를 일부러 잘못 묻었단 사실을 알게 된다. 20년 동안 썩지 않은 시체를 보고 구숙은 임씨에게 선친을 화장하라고 종용하지만 임씨는 이를 거절하고, 강시로 변해버린 선친에 의해 살해되고 만다. 하지만 임씨 역시 강시로 변하고, 마을은 이 두 강시의 출현으로 순식간에 아수라장으로 변한다.
