홀리(캐서린 헤이글)와 에릭(조쉬 듀하멜)은 어느날 서로 결혼한 그들의 친구인 피터(헤이스 맥아더)와 엘리슨(크리스티나 헨드릭스)에의해 소개팅을 받게된다.  피터와 엘리슨은 어느날 사고로 사망하게 되고 홀리와 에릭은 피터와 엘리슨의 딸인 소피의 양육자로 임명됐다는 사실을 발견한다. 홀리와 에릭은 피터와 엘리슨이 죽기전 소원에따라 그들의 집에 들어가게되지만 소피를 키우는일은 생각보다 쉽지 않았고 홀리와 에릭은 처음에 감정다툼을 하게되는데…
