신시내티의 한 은행에서 벌어진 대형 강도 사건. 이후 연달아 강도 사건이 발생하는데 그 은행들은 전부 금융계 거물인 ‘제프리 휴버트’ (브루스 윌리스)가 소유한 지점들이다. FBI 국장 ‘몽고메리’(크르스토퍼 멜로니)를 선두로 FBI 요원 ‘스탁웰’(데이브 바티스타)과 ‘웰스’(아드리언 그레이니) 등은 수사에 착수하고 본격적으로 조사를 해나간다. 수사 중 발견되는 증거물들은 그러나 하나같이 피해자 ‘제프리 휴버트’를 범인으로 지목하는 아이러니한 상황이 발생하는데...
