1986년 5월 16일 금요일,와이오밍 주 코크빌에서 일어났던 충격 실화!전직 보안관이었던 데이빗 영은 아내 도리스와 함께 코크빌 초등학교에 들어가 136명의 아이들과 선생님을 포함한 18명의 성인을 인질로 잡고, 아이 한 명당 2백만 달러의 몸값을 요구한다. 인질극이 벌어지는 동안 아이들은 교사들의 지도에 따라 침착하게 대처하지만 시간이 흐르면서 어수선해지고 목숨까지 위협받게 되는 상황이 다가오는데…!
