′자도빌 포위작전′은 1961년에 발생한 실화를 영화화한 작품이다. 광업 회사에 고용된 프랑스, 벨기에 용병이 이끄는 콩고 군인 3,000명이 아일랜드 출신 UN 정예군 150명을 포위하고, 이들은 결코 이길 수 없는 상황에서도 패트릭 퀸란(Patrick Quinlan, 제이미 도넌(Jamie Dornan) 분) 장군의 지휘 아래 놀라운 용맹함을 발휘한다. 퀸란 장군과 그의 부대를 섬멸하려는 프랑스 장군 역은 기욤 카네(Guillaume Canet)가 맡았다.
