4명의 우주인이 10,000km 상공의 우주정거장에서 1000일 간 생활하며 안전성을 확인하는 미션 ‘프로젝트 M’이 실행된다. 가까스로 천일이 끝나갈 무렵, 갑자기 우주정거장과 지구 간의 통신이 두절된다. 식량도, 산소도 모두 한정된 우주정거장에 고립된 우주인들은 크게 동요하고, 지구의 동태를 살피던 그들은 자신이 떠나온 지구에 핵전쟁이 일어났음을 깨닫게 된다. 지구로 돌아갈 수도, 돌아가지 않을 수도 없게 된 상황. 우주인들은 패닉하기 시작한다.
